A quick update on our First Tech Fund fellowship cohort and program kickoff
We’re excited to share that as of yesterday, we have kicked off our virtual 2020-2021 First Tech Fund program with 50 NYC high school students from across all 5 boroughs. Every month throughout the upcoming school year, students will participate in remote mentorship pods and enjoy a themed programming curriculum including:
Leveraging essential digital applications like G Suite
Exploring the college landscape and tackling the admissions essay
Networking, resume writing, and learning tips on growing a positive online presence
Career-themed panels with professionals in public health, entrepreneurship, STEM, law, finance, and more
In our first ever application process, we heard from more than 750 high school students, and hundreds more who were outside the eligibility criteria that didn’t submit an application. Some were elementary and middle school students, but in many cases, we heard from college students without access to the technology they needed to keep up with their classes.
We spent the last two weekends in September delivering technology everywhere from Staten Island to the Bronx and beyond. We were also fortunate to receive some media coverage from a local NY based news station, which you’ll find here.
More than ever, we need your support to ensure that our students have access to the technology, connectivity, and community. With your gift of $20 or more, we’ll be able to serve these students and more as we begin to plan our program for the 2021-2022 school year. The funds we collect are going directly to purchasing tools that will be used by underserved NYC high school students. If you can’t donate, consider sharing this blog with a friend or colleague to spread the word.
With individuals like you on our side, we won’t fail to make an impact in the lives of the students who need it the most. Again, thank you for your support and we can’t wait to show you more of our program soon!
